About

Black Marsh Farm Sand and Gravel is a proposed sand and gravel extraction project in the Skinkers Neck area of Caroline County, VA. This project will employ 14 full-time employees and generate approximately $100,000 in taxes for the county.

No wetlands will be impacted as a result of the proposed operation and no dewatering will occur. All sand and gravel will be transported from the site by barge, the safest, most efficient mode of transportation, with no truck traffic on area roadways thus minimizing the operation’s carbon footprint. Agricultural uses will continue during and after reclamation. A lake provided as part of the reclamation plan will improve overall water quality by reducing nutrient runoff to the river and bay from farming.

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors will vote on the special exception permit for Black Marsh Farm Sand and Gravel on Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Please contact the Board of Supervisors and urge them to vote yes to this project which will benefit the county.
